I was in my teens in the early 1990s, and I loved ❤️ watching the American sitcom Doogie Howser, M.D.

Each night, Doogie would sit at his desk and sum up his day in one or two sentences. Many years later, I came across an article describing how the series was originally meant to end: Doogie gives up his career in medicine to become a writer.

While I have no plans to give up my own career in medicine 🙃, that revelation resonated with me. I was further inspired to write by surgeon bloggers such as Bongi and Keagirl.

I write to make sense of my experiences. Writing helps me cope with burnout, and it allows me to share the humor and meaning I find in seemingly mundane, day-to-day encounters.
